As a key member of the Bremner Real Estate team, Kevin Knue works seamlessly with both internal and external teams to ensure the highest quality results for clients — and for the communities they serve. He has overseen projects such as the LEED Silver Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic in Tampa, Florida, Indianapolis’s LEED Gold Eskenazi Health Fifth/Third Faculty Office Building, and the four stand-alone hospitals of the SCL-Emerus Community Hospitals system in Denver. These efforts alone encompass collective millions of square feet and multiple specialties from emergency and cancer centers to primary care and women’s wellness.

Success isn’t measured in square footage; it’s measured in impact. Healthcare systems and providers will be able to deliver care more effectively and efficiently, and countless patients will benefit from up-to-date, efficient facilities that meet their needs.

Kevin says, “The exciting part of my role is that we can use a wide array of skills to help a hospital system implement their vision for new development, and at the end of the day when we deliver the project, the best part is seeing new patients start to use the facilities as we know we are helping to enable better access to healthcare in these communities.”

Developing Stronger, Healthier Communities

Kevin honed his skills in real estate development and construction with Duke Realty. When Duke sold its healthcare assets, he decided that going to the re-imagined and newly formed Bremner Real Estate was the right move. The Bremner tam, and all of its clients, are fortunate he did. Kevin has served as Bremner’s Vice President, Development since 2018 and was promoted to Senior Vice President and named Partner in early 2021. In this capacity, his focus is guiding clients through their new project needs, working on both ground-up developments as well as redevelopments that will become invaluable assets to healthcare systems.

Kevin oversees all aspects of a development project, from site selection to breaking ground to handing over properties to healthcare systems. A critical component of his role is assembling the right team for each project: he works closely with designers, architects, civil and mechanical engineers, construction managers, financial partners — and that’s only one side of the equation.

On the client side, Kevin maintains strong relationships with healthcare system stakeholders, working with internal real estate teams, CFOs, COOs, and facilities personnel to ensure that properties meet their needs and goals.

Bremner Real Estate President Matt Bremner says “There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter approach in the healthcare development world, which makes Kevin such an invaluable partner and a natural fit to lead our development efforts. His ability to manage complex projects and effectively communicate both to the client’s executive team and throughout the design and construction teams helps keep projects successful.”

Projects typically encompass different external teams each time and markets range from Indiana to Florida to Oklahoma to New Jersey. Kevin says, “Each project is unique. We work on being nimble in our approach to create the best solution for the client. We want to ensure that they have facilities that meet their needs and allow them to serve their communities.”

Relationships Matter

Developing efficient, effective healthcare properties requires intense attention to detail and, as mentioned, the ability to meld diverse people into a cohesive team. Kevin excels at juggling the myriad details and intricacies that make it work. He notes that Bremner Real Estate is 100% “client-focused and relationship-based.”

For example, when working in new markets, Kevin says, “We have been fortunate that in every market we’ve gone into, there are healthcare experts and partners that we can align in order to build a great team.” Having the ability to remain agile while forging strong project partnerships is crucial; Kevin’s leadership is invaluable in making these connections and in ensuring that projects move smoothly from concept to completion.

“We want to build teams that implement and meet hospitals’ visions and goals, providing them with new facilities that enable them to provide the highest quality of care.”

Growing Forward

“The opportunity to help structure the organization, build its footprint, and help it grow is both exciting and rewarding.” With Kevin at the helm of the healthcare development team, Bremner Real Estate looks forward to many more successful projects, satisfied clients, and, most importantly, healthier communities.
